About Us
Tai Tapu Country Flowers is based at Ballymoney, our 4ha property between Tai Tapu and Lincoln in rural Canterbury.
We are Sara and Dave. Originally from Canterbury, we spent 30 years in the Marlborough Sounds, where we owned and operated an adventure tourism business. In 2018, we returned to Canterbury and settled at Ballymoney.
Over time, our gardens and homes have become more than just places to grow flowers. They have been a constant — something to work in, focus on, and build over the years. As parents of three daughters, two of whom are no longer with us, we have found ourselves returning to these projects as a source of focus and quiet appreciation.
We are both creators at heart. Dave’s love of design and building has shaped much of the house and garden, while Sara’s interest in interiors, gardens, and flowers has provided a natural outlet for our shared creative work.
With more time on our hands, we have turned to growing seasonal flowers for local and national markets, as well as for weddings, special occasions, and the everyday. Annuals and perennials, including paeonies, are grown for cutting. We’ve also found real pleasure in sharing the garden and the flowers with others, and in seeing the enjoyment they bring.
The name Tai Tapu Country Flowers reflects both where we live and how we work — flowers grown and arranged in a creative, relaxed, garden-led way, with a sense of generosity and abundance.
